Ongoing Programs

“Sefer Ha-Aggadah” Study Group with Rabbi Prouser
Mondays, 12:30pm – 1:30pm
Join this ongoing class, which examines “Sefer Ha – Aggadah: The Book of Legends,” a survey of midrash and rabbinic tales. The course is a continuation of our Hilchot Chagim (Laws of the Holidays) and Monday Mitzvah Study Group. Text is studied in English translation. New students always welcome!

Oneg with Ora
Fridays following Kabbalat Shabbat services which begin 7:30pm
Bi-monthly Shabbat Eve study session with Dr. Ora Horn Prouser,  exploring innovative approaches to understanding the Bible text. Refreshments and study follow Kabbalat Shabbat Friday evening services.   Dr. Ora Prouser Horn is a Professor of Bible, Executive VP and Dean of the Academy of Jewish Religion.

Second Family Shabbat Dinners: Celebrate Shabbat with Family and Friends
Monthly community shabbat dinners. Services begin at 6:30pm followed by a festive, communal shabbat meal. Please RSVP to the office by the Monday before dinner. $20 per adult / $8 per child 6-13, children 5 and under free. Maximum charge per family is $55.

“My Shabbat” – Friday Night Program for Young Children
Monthly program – the regular Shabbat evening service includes a program of singing and storytelling for young children (through Grade 3 or so) – who are welcome to attend in pajamas! After “Lecha Dodi” the children are invited to a special “Oneg Shabbat” program while the congregational service continues.

Sundays with Sokol
Third Sunday of the month

Charlie Sokol presents early – often extremely rare – films, TV episodes, radio recordings, and other media of special interest to the Jewish community.  The program is open to the public, no charge. Please check our home page and calendar for event descriptions and times.

Individual Jewish Study
What would YOU like to learn? Torah or Haftara reading? Leading Shabbat Services?  Mishnah? Midrash?  Maimonides?  Rashi? Special Events

Special event: Annual Presidents Day Shacharit Service.
Monday, February 15, 2016, 8:00-9:15am. Services will feature The Gettysburg Address translated into Hebrew and chanted as a Haftorah!! Light breakfast to follow.

Mitzvah Day 2015 Drive
Ongoing through November 1
Temple Emanuel is collecting the following items for Mitzvah Day coordinated by the Jewish Federation of Northern New Jersey.  Items requested for donation include: Ramapo Readers (gently used textbooks to benefit schools in underserved communities), plastic supermarket bags for food pantries, emergency care kits to benefit Kosher Meals on Wheels recipients.
